How to Submit to a Talent Agency

Agencies read hundreds of packages; yours has about a minute, so let the specs do the talking.

Everything an agency needs to decide on you fits in a slim package: one photograph, one page, one note, one tape. The specs below are not etiquette; they are the physical standards casting offices are built around.

The headshot prints at 8x10 inches — 203x254 millimetres — because that is the size casting files and audition rooms use. Sent digitally, the same frame at 300 dpi is 2400x3000 pixels: large enough to print cleanly, small enough to send without compression damage.

The résumé is one page. Training, stage and screen credits, and special skills sit in separate blocks, each findable in a thirty-second scan. Special skills means performable on camera tomorrow — not everything you have ever tried.

On narrow screens, swipe or scroll the plate sideways.

The cover note is three or four sentences: who you are, where you train, what you have done most recently, and a link to the tape. It is a label on the package, not a memoir.

The self-tape follows the format casting sets: a slate, then one to three short scenes, each under two minutes unless the notice says otherwise. Running long does not show range; it shows you cannot follow the first instruction of the job.

Send the way the agency asks to receive. Submission policies — form, email, mail — are published and enforced, and the wrong channel is a silent rejection. After sending, one polite follow-up is professional; the standard replies are 'not accepting new clients', 'roster full' or 'we already represent your type', and silence is itself an answer.
